2026 Flute Fair Competitions Repertoire

Young soloists (9-12 yrs old)

*One LIVE round* on the day of the competition (Sunday, November 15, 2026)

  • Two contrasting pieces of your own choices (up to 5 mins total)

 

​​Middle School (Grades 6-8)

Individual performance times will be emailed approximately one month prior to the event.

* Winner to perform commission work at winner's recital*

*One LIVE round* on the day of the competition (Sunday, November 15, 2026)

  • Carl Nielsen, The Children Are Playing

  • A commissioned piece for the 2026 NJFF Competition: Danse De Guacamole for flute and piano by Sergio Ramirez Guerrero.  [Click HERE to purchase the music​]

*Participants in the Young Artist, High School, and Adult Enthusiasts Divisions should refer to the Recording Guidelines here. All participants must complete their entry form, upload video recordings, and submit both the competition and membership fees by September 18, 2026. 

 

High School (Grades 9-12)

**Accompaniment is optional, but highly suggested for pre-screening**

Pre-screening

  • C. W. Gluck, Minuet and Dance of the blessed spirits

  • Gabriel Fauré, Fantasy ​for flute and piano

 

Final Live Round

**Accompaniment is required for the final round**

  • Valerie Coleman, Danse de la Mariposa

  • A piece of your own choosing (up to 7 mins) 

 

Young Artist (Age 18-30)

**Piano accompaniment is required for both rounds**

 

Pre-screening

  • Sigfrid Karg-Elert, Caprice Op. 107, No. 30 “Chaconne”

  • Henri Dutilleux, Sonatine ​for flute and piano

Final Live Round 

  • Adolphus Hailstork, Yuhwa (The Goddess of the Willow Trees) for solo flute

  • One piece of your own choice (up to 13 minutes)


 

Adult Enthusiasts

(This year, the Adult Enthusiasts Competition will be held in a single online round).

**No age limit, but may not be self-described as a professional musician, or future professional musician, and may not have received a performance degree in flute in or after 2016**

**Accompaniment is required**

*One Online round*

  • Howard Hanson, Serenade for flute and piano, op.35

  • William still, Summerland ​
