Now comprised of eight members,
Flutatious! has been entertaining audiences in the tri-state area since 2004. Performing a wide variety of music, some originally written for flute ensemble and some transcribed for flutes, these professional musicians aim to engage and educate their audiences. In 2009,
Flutatious! was selected to perform at the National Flute Association’s annual convention in New York City, and took part in the Guinness record-setting performance by the world’s largest flute ensemble, conducted by Sir James Galway. Members Flora Alexander, Jenny Cline, Cathy Garrison, Bill Hoff, Bill Hutzel, Lawrence Liggins, Clarissa Nolde, and Nancy Evans Shearer perform interchangeably on piccolo, C flute, alto and bass flutes. For the NJFS event, this eclectic ensemble will perform works by Joseph Bodin de Boismortier, Nancy Galbraith, Jennifer Higdon, Catherine McMichael and Alec Wilder, and will give the New Jersey première of a new work, Contraptions by Zach Sheets.
Following the performance, attendees are invited to participate in a flute choir reading session. Flutatious! members will lead those gathered through several fun and interesting flute choir pieces, including works by NJ composer Ricky Lombardo. Bring your C flutes, alto and bass flutes and a music stand and take part in this always popular activity.
